Prophet Isa (as), who came right before our beloved Messenger Muhammad (sa), foretold his people about the last messenger to come. He said this individual would be the seal of the prophets. Prophet Isa (as) called him ‘Ahmad’, which was Prophet Muhammad’s (sa) nickname.
Prophet Muhammad (sa) was also known by other names such as ‘Al-Aqib’ meaning ‘the one who comes after the others.’ He had another name ‘Al-Mahi’, which means ‘he who wipes out’ and in his case, it referred to the fact that he wiped off the darkness of disbelief and injustice from the world.
As a child, Muhammad (sa) was not naughty or mischievous. He had an innocent and cultured disposition. He was also a very happy person who attracted others by his sincerity and purity.
He was intelligent although he did not attend any school.
He could tend to sheep – as a shepherd, he learned the skills necessary for taking care of and being responsible for others. This helped him greatly in spreading Islam, when he had a team of his own Sahabah (companions). 1400 years ago, in the absence of iPads and other cellular technology, he went on a business trip with his uncle, Abu Talib. He was only twelve at the time, which shows that kids are smart and can help their parents in business ventures at such a young age, too. The Prophet (sa) later became one of the most successful businessmen, who was fair and just with others in his interactions.
Even though he never saw his father (who died before Prophet (sa) was born) and also lost his mother at the very young age of just six years, he was not a sad or unruly child. Allah (swt) protected him from all the harms. He could have turned out to be an ill-behaved, angry, and destructive child. However, he was the most loving, caring, and forgiving person. He looked for chances to help others and felt most happy bringing joy to them.
This was his life before he became a prophet of Allah (swt). This is how Allah (swt) expects all Muslims to be.
