I still remember that day as if it was yesterday. Even though I was blessed with everything I could wish for, I was proud, ungrateful, bossy, mean, rude and cold-hearted. Indeed, at the age of 15, I was taught a valuable lesson that changed my life forever!
Walking home from school, I saw a little boy holding his stomach and beefing for food. He was deprived of everything – even the basic necessities of life which I had and didn’t even thank my Lord for .
While I was occupied, thrusting my hand in my pocket groping for money I didn’t realize a car racing towards me. I hardly remember the next moment; it was only the sensation of being terribly hit and drifting to unconsciousness. I woke up, found my leg bandaged and a couple of doctors peering over me. Seeing my family huddled in a corner, with tears in their eyes, I immediately knew I had lost a leg .
My fears were confirmed and this just marked the beginning of my sorrowful days. I cried every day, punishing myself for not doing the right thing. It was a fresh painful experience; I began to realize how lucky I was, bestowed with the favours and grace of my Most Merciful and Compassionate God.
I had been gifted with everything I wanted, yet I had never thanked him. Now not only could I not walk but being a sporty person it was difficult for me to adapt to the change. I could not run, swim, play or do any physical activity! I realized it was still not too late, I could still work hard to gain the pleasure of Allah!
From then on I was inspired. I remained motivated and aimed to accomplish the goal of changing myself positively!
I helped the poor and needy, was friendly towards others, adopted a positive attitude, became kind caring and was wholly devoted to do what I could in the way of Allah (swt). Surely, it is true when they say All Is Well that Ends Well! Allah (swt) had actually done a favour for me; my Mighty Lord has actually rescued me from wrong, from evil in the future, from the wrong path. Indeed, He has directed me to the right path, the most forgiving Creator has shown me the Light!
